Yesterday a host of U.S. organizations and associations, including CSI, sent a letter to the Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. The letter addressed concerns of a new Draft Foreign NGO Management Law in China that would limit the ability of foreign NGOs and their partners (U.S. organizations) to effectively operate within China. Today members of the Global Services Coalition (GSC) sent a letter to all trade ministers participating in the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) negotiations. The GSC expressed their strong support for the continued progress of an ambitious and forward-looking TiSA agreement.

CSI, along with numerous other companies and associations, have signed two important letters sent to members of Congress in regards to amendments being considered to the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015. On May 19th, a group of trade associations sent a letter to Congress urging them to oppose Amendment 1328. On May 20th, business and agricultural associations sent a letter to Congress strongly supporting the passage of Amendment 1141.

Today the U.S. International Trade Commission released its annual report on Recent Trends in U.S. Services Trade. The report shows that from 2012 to 2013, U.S. cross-border services exports rose 5.1 percent (up from 5 percent in 2012), while U.S. services imports grew 3 percent.

Today CSI sent a letter to all U.S. Senators voicing strong support for the passage of the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (TPA-2015). The TPA includes new, ambitious, modern language for rules on services trade on a number of key areas and recognizes the need to eliminate existing and new barriers to services trade.

Update: On April 22, 2015 the TBA Coalition also sent the letter to the House Ways and Means Committee.

CSI was part of a large group of associations who sent a letter to Congress today strongly supporting the inclusion of investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) in U.S. trade negotiations. ISDS is a vital enforcement tool to ensure American businesses and their workers are treated fairly in foreign markets. Today Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) and House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) introduced a bipartisan Trade Priorities and Accountability Act (TPA) which establishes concrete rules for international trade negotiations to help the United States deliver a unified, strong voice in international trade agreements. CSI strongly supports the TPA and urges Congress to pass this vital bill.

The Coalition of Services Industries (CSI), the Trans-Atlantic Business Council, and the European Services Forum (ESF) are proud to present a seminar entitled "Services-Sleeping Giant of the Transatlantic Economy", to take place on April 17th in Brussels, Belgium. The seminar will feature Peter Allgeier, President of CSI, and Pascal Kerneis, Managing Director of the ESF. Ambassador Allgeier and Mr. Kerneis will discuss why services are so vital to transatlantic trade and all sectors of the economy.
